Telling Stories
Comics? Aren't they the greatest? Jakob thinks so anyway. I guess that's why he has drawn
quite a few of them by now.
In Denmark it's virtually impossible to make a living of drawing comics and so this is
purely a hobby of his. Even though he enjoys it so much that he sometimes almost forgets to
do any real work and sits drawing comics all day.
On this page I've collected a few samples from his sketchbook and comics:
Lykkedyrene (The Fortune Animals) is a bunch of very different and cute animals, who go
exploring together with the girl Liia. Please notice that the series is in Danish.
SkoFo is a comic strip series from 1998, which in part has been redrawn in 2007 and later. It takes place at a school
and mainly tells the story of how the children interact with each other and with the grown
ups around them.
One of his earliest trys at drawing comics, Adiafora tells the story of the girl Rakel
and her boyfriend Laban. Their common adventures take place in a not too distant
future and mainly involves her snapping and him worrying about the consequences. Part
of the story takes place in Rakel's imagination as well.
Letters to Eternity. Well, that's a title Jakob won't forget for a long time. 45+ pages
in A3 paper size. Coloured. It took him 15 months to complete the colouring while studying animation at the same time.
Unfortunately his drawing skills improved during that time and in the end he was struggeling to maintain the same
bad lines in order not to destroy the artistic continuity. The album tells the story of five
different kinds of loneliness and the people experiencing them. It's really sad.
Work In Progress... well, not just work in progress. Here you find a few of Jakob's sketches and designs.
Some of the series he's still working on, while others were abandoned after a while. Not all ideas work, but you
have to give them a chance in order to find out which ones are worth the while!
